Getting started: publish clear, useful content

Use this starter guide to plan the first reviewed pages for a new website, then replace it with guidance written for your own audience.

6 min read

This is starter content. Its structure can be reused, but every example should be replaced with information that matches the purpose, audience, and responsibilities of the finished website.

Start with the audience

Write down who needs the page and what they should be able to understand or do after reading it. A page with one clear audience and one useful outcome is easier to write, review, and maintain.

  • Use the words visitors use when describing their need.
  • Put the most important answer before background detail.
  • Make the next action visible and specific.

Use reliable source material

Identify the approved source for every important fact, date, metric, quotation, and contact detail. If a claim cannot be supported, remove it or label the uncertainty honestly rather than filling the gap with promotional language.

Review before publishing

Ask a subject owner to verify accuracy and an editor to check clarity, links, headings, and alternative text. Preview the page at phone and desktop widths, and confirm that the published route matches the navigation label.

Keep content current

Assign an owner and a review date. Retire pages that are no longer useful, update time-sensitive details promptly, and keep a clear record of what changed and why.

When this starter guide has served its purpose, replace it with guidance written for the real visitors to this site.
